Day 181: June

I can’t believe its the last day of June already and the year is half over! This month has gone by so fast and especially the last two weeks. At the beginning of the month it was Spring and now it’s summer. I think months where the season changes in the middle are interesting in general but especially June. Depending on the year the temperature can still be cool at the beginning of the month, but by the end it’s blazing hot! Because of the weather some years I think of June being a summer month and other years I think of it as still spring.

Day 181: Thank you Lord for the month of June and it’s interesting weather, where we say good-bye to Spring and transition into summer.

Day 180: God’s Protection

Turning onto my street tonight we were very nearly in an accident. I’ve never actually been in accident but like most people there’ve been a few close calls and this was one of the closest. It was kinda scary, but we were fine, thanks to God’s protection over us. Whenever there’s a close call on the road or another type of almost accident I’m always thankful for God’s protection, especially when it could’ve been bad. Those are only the times when I’m aware of it, I also think about the time’s when God has protected me and I didn’t even know it. Whenever I get behind a slow-moving car I try to think of it as “maybe I’m stuck here because if I kept going there’d be an accident.”

Day 180: Thank you Lord for your protection tonight, and all the times I’m aware of it and especially when I’m not.

Day 179: Being Pain-Free

I’ve had a bad back since my sophomore year of high school and it’s bothered me off and on through the years, as well as other aches and pains, and an occasional injury, through the years often directly and indirectly a result of my disability. Yesterday I threw both of my hips out of whack, (I’m not sure exactly how) and I’ve been in pain ever since. I don’t function well when I’m in pain, I can’t do anything very well, which is why I appreciate times when I’m pain-free and try to use them to the best of my ability.

Day 179: Thank you Lord for the times when I’m pain-free and can work to the best of my ability.

Day 178: Carts

At my job I have to move things from one part of the office to another multiple times each day. Most of the time they’re not too heavy and I can carry it without anything to help me, and if I can I do. However, sometimes it’s just too heavy or would take too long to carry in multiple trips, so I have to get a cart to transport it. I don’t always like using it because I believe if you can do something physically you should and if you don’t you’re being lazy, but sometimes it’s just not practical, and it makes my job easier!

Day 178: Thank you Lord for the carts at work that make my job easier!

Day 177: Pots and Pans

I made spaghetti for dinner tonight on the stove using a pot for the noodles and a pan for the sauce. Some days I try to come up with something big to be thankful for, and I overlook the small things, but not today. Pots and pans are small things in the grand scheme of things, but important when cooking on the stove. There are a lot of foods that cook so much easier, quicker, and taste better on the stove and we could not cook on the stove without pots and pans.

Day 177: Thank you Lord for pots and pans, so we can cook on the stove.

Day 176: People who respect Library Books

I don’t know about you but when I’m reading to something from the library I’m much more careful with it than something I own. If it’s something from the Library I know a lot of other people have and will handle it so I want to keep it as nice as possible. I don’t own it I’m just borrowing it and I want to be a good steward of it. Of course accidents will happen, (like the other day I was in the break room at work when someone dropped a bottle of red Gatorade all over the floor and a few drops landed on my Library book) but I try as hard as I can to keep it nice. I usually don’t eat while I’m reading a Library book, but I will if it’s something I own.

It really bothers me when I get a book from the Library and there are food stains all over the pages. Recently I got a book that was so new I was probably the second person to read it, and there were stains throughout its pages. I can kind of understand if it’s an older book, but come on, it’s a brand new book! Why would you treat it that way? When I get a book that’s been out for a while and is still in pretty good condition, I’m SO happy that to see that everyone who’s read it before treated it with such care.

Day 176: Thank you Lord for people who respect library books, it makes them so much more enjoyable to others and sets a good example to the next person who checks it out.

Day 175: Christian Radio

I listen to the radio quite often, it’s my alarm clock in the morning, and it’s usually what I listen to in the car. But there’s only one station I listen to: the local Christian radio station. Ok, if I’m being perfectly honest I do occasionally listen to the local light rock station, and if someone else is in charge of the dial of course I listen to whatever they chose, but when I get to decide it’s that.

Christian music is pretty much the only music I listen to along with Broadway musicals. I just don’t like secular music that much. Of course there are certain secular songs I do like, but there are few that have reached my top favorite songs at any one time. Christian music is just so edifying, I feel good when I listen to it, and I can worship God while I’m listening.

Since I don’t use iTunes or Pandora my selection of music is fairly limited which is why I enjoy Christian radio so much. I can get tired of the songs on my iPod or cds and want to hear something different so I turn on the radio. There not only do I get to hear other songs, but new ones as well. I don’t know how the DJs are on your Christian station but the ones on mine are usually interesting, funny, and have great insight into different songs and things going on in the world from a Christian perspective.

Day 175: Thank you Lord for Christian radio for how it glorifies you, builds me up, and is a witness to the world.
