Day 212: Local Magazine

Recently I mentioned that I was going to have a couple of articles published in a local magazine. Well when I got home from work today the latest edition of the magazine was in my mailbox with my first article in it! I can’t tell you how excited I was to see it in print! I’m so grateful to have an opportunity like this to write and have articles published. It’s a wonderful opportunity to get my name out there and it’s fun for me.

Day 212: Thank you Lord for the local magazine that’s publishing my articles! I’m so happy for another opportunity to write and be published.

Day 211: Sam’s Club

I really like shopping at Sam’s Club, there’s so much stuff there. I’ve discovered so many different foods I love there, especially in the frozen section, that I’ve never seen anywhere else. I love going there and getting the free samples they always have, some days they have so many choices you could almost have a full meal. I always stop and look at the books while I’m there, sometimes I get one sometimes I don’t, I’ve gotten quite a few books that I’ve loved there, and cheaper than a lot of other places. Recently I’ve started looking at the clothes too, I’ve found quite a few tops that I love there.

Day 211: Thank you Lord for Sam’s Club and all the stuff they have there!

Day 210: Customer Service

I had a problem today and had to call customer service to try to fix it. We’ll have to wait and see if that call will fix the problem, (they have to check into the problem) but the guy I talked to was so nice and seemed like he really was trying to help me. I really appreciated his attitude because when I called I was pretty upset, but by the time I hung up I felt better.

I don’t think I could ever be in customer service, I get upset too easily, that’s why I really appreciate people in customer service and when I have to talk with them try to be as nice as possible. I know they have to deal with a lot of angry and upset people, and I don’t know how they can handle it on a daily basis. But I appreciate it so much when they help me out and I try to let them know.

Day 210: Thank you Lord for people who work in Customer Service and how they help me when I need it.

Day 209: Hallmark Channel

If I had to pick a favorite TV Channel it would definitely be the Hallmark Channel. I started watching it because they showed “Touched by an Angel” my favorite TV show of all time, (I REALLY wish they still did!) then I saw a commercial for one of their movies which I saw and loved. Of course it wasn’t until later that I realized they produced the “Love Comes Softly” films which I had already seen and loved. They show many “Christian” movies I think of it as the closest thing to a Christian station without actually being one, which I appreciate.

I love watching Hallmark Channel especially at Christmas time, when they show Christmas movies 24/7. I mainly watch it for the movies, and have yet to see one I hated, though there are some I haven’t liked very much. Yes the end of the movie storylines can be predictable, but the overall stories are usually good, and differ. I appreciate the fact that not every movie ends with a wedding, some end in an engagement, while others just end with hope for the future.

Day 209: Thank you Lord for the Hallmark Channel and the wonderful things they show there.

Day 208: Google

Almost every day I use one website: Google. Because there are few days when I don’t need to look something up. Certainly if I know the website address I type it in, but that isn’t always the case.

Do you use Google? Everyone I know seems to use it. Forget about Yahoo or Bing. Give it a try if you haven’t already, you won’t be sorry. Have fun and look something strange up on it.

I don’t just use it to look up websites, because there’s so much more to the Google website. Just go on and take a look at the top bar. Keep up with what’s going on in the world with Google News. Look up where something is with Google Maps, and get directions to get there too. Make sure something in another language means what you think it does with Google Translate. Need an e-mail address? Open a Gmail account. Photos on the web are easy to find with Google Images.

Quick I need to know something right now! Relax, Google will have the answer. Sure enough, I just type it in and there it is. Thank you Lord, I don’t know what I’d do without it!

Usually if I didn’t have Google I’d feel lost when it comes to finding stuff online. Varieties of website you’ve never heard of before can be found there. Whatever you need from people to places to things, you can find using Google. Xeroxes to plants. Yarn to computers. Zebras to apples.

Day 208: Thank you Lord for Google and all the info you can find there, and how it helps me almost daily.

Written for today’s Daily Prompt.

Day 207: Ghostwriter

Yesterday I finished watching Season 1 on DVD of one of my favorite TV shows of all time: Ghostwriter! If you weren’t a kid in the early 1990’s who watched PBS you may have never heard of this show, but in my opinion it’s the best kids’ tv show of all time! Ghostwriter was about a group of kids in Brooklyn, NY who work together to solve mysteries with the help of a “ghost” only they can see who can’t hear, see, or talk, and communicates only through writing who they call Ghostwriter.

I can’t tell you how much I loved this show when it was on the air! I would try to solve the cases right along with the team and pretend I was one of them. I wrote “Rally” everywhere, and even though I knew Ghostwriter wasn’t real I pretended he was. Our computer at the time didn’t even have a word processor and I gained most of my computer knowledge from the show. (It wasn’t till much later that I figured out they used Macs instead of PCs, I was pretty confused when we got our first PC)

I’ve always loved mystery/crime shows and books, I know this show was a big part of that. But I also know it had a big impact on my wanting to be a writer. They did so much writing on the show that it inspired me to be just like them. I loved it so much I wanted to write some “fan fiction” about Ghostwriter discovering who he really is. (I never did do that though) I did loosely base a character in a short story I wrote on Rob from the show, at least him in one specific episode.

(On a side note some famous faces were on the show, some were famous even then but others became famous later. Samuel L Jackson, Spike Lee, Julia Stiles, Dule Hill. Unfortunately none of the main kid actors really did anything else after it went off the air)

Day 207: Thank you Lord for Ghostwriter and the impact it had on me becoming a writer.

Day 206: Savannah

(For today’s Daily Prompt) My closest friend is… someone I’ve never met in person. I know that might sound weird but it’s absolutely true! Some people meet their husband or wife online, I met my best friend! Her name is Savannah and she lives on the opposite side of the country from me. We met on Facebook because her family adopted a girl I met overseas.

I still remember accepting her friend request, she Facebook chatted me right away. She wanted to hear all about her little sister and we really hit it off. We talked several times over the next few days, then I’m not sure why but I gave her my phone number. That was almost three years ago, and now we talk most days often for hours on Facebook chat or the phone.

She’s one of the most open and honest people I’ve ever known, I feel like I can tell her anything and I think she feels the same way. She’s provided amazing insight into my life and I’ve been able to speak into hers as well. She challenges me in my faith and makes me think, while we don’t always agree on everything I know I’m a better person and have a stronger faith as a result. We’re both writers, and send each other pieces of whatever we’re working on for the other to read and comment on.

Of course I have other friends who live closer and I see all the time, but I don’t think I’ve ever been as close to anyone like Savannah. I know we may never meet this side of heaven, and while that makes me sad, I wouldn’t change our friendship for anything! I’m so glad the Lord put her in my life, and I know I’m a better person because of her.

Day 206: Thank you Lord for placing Savannah in my life, thank you for the way she speaks into my life and has made me a better person.
