#373: Memorizing Bible Verses

Growing up my parents had us memorize different verses of the Bible, and a few passages, many of which I still remember today. These verses have helped me a lot over the years in different situations, and strengthened my faith. I will be forever grateful that I memorized those verses so many years ago. That was then, but I am sad to say I can’t remember the last time I memorized a Bible verse. I know it’s important to memorize scripture, after all Psalm 119:11 says “I have stored up your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you.”

A friend of mine recently memorized the entire book Colossians and recited it at our church a few weeks ago. I wasn’t there that Sunday, but this afternoon I watched the video of it. I can’t tell you how amazed, challenged and convicted I was by it; I also felt God telling me to do the same thing with the book of Philippians. (my favorite book of the Bible) I know it’s going to be a challenge (it took her 2 years) but I’m excited to see what God will teach me through this experience.

#373: Thank you Lord that we can memorize verses of scripture so we know them when we need them, and can learn from your word.

#372: Snowplows

The East Coast of the US has gotten so much snow this Winter that I completely sick of it! It’s not Winter for me without at least some snow, but enough is enough, and I can’t wait till Spring! But we’ve had to deal with it and still go out in it to work, which is why I’m grateful for the snow plows, especially this week with the big snow we had, so we can get out and be safe on the roads. My next door neighbor drives a snowplow and he just got home this afternoon after having been out since Wednesday night! I know he must be exhausted, but I’m grateful for him and everyone else who’s been out there working hard.

#372: Thank you Lord for the snowplows, so the roads are clear and we don’t have to worry about them as much when we have to go out and drive in the snow.

#371: The Olympics

Every other year for two weeks I’m glued to the tv like most of the world, watching the Olympics! I’m a HUGE Olympic fan! I don’t care what sport is on, Summer or Winter Games, if I’m not doing anything and the Olympic broadcast is on I’m watching it! Of course there are some sports I like more than others, but I enjoy watching them all. I was born in an Olympic year, and I think I might’ve become an Olympic fan before I was born because my mom remembers watching the Games while she was pregnant with me.

There’s so many different sports in the Olympics, which we don’t often get to see. Figure Skating is my favorite Winter sport and Gymnastics my favorite Summer. I watch these as often as I can on TV, but I often don’t get to see the other Olympic sports. I often remember athletes from previous games and it’s fun to see them compete again and hear what they’ve been up to.

I love cheering on the US athletes, and seeing the best athletes from around the world compete against each other. I love hearing their stories, especially people from other countries, and while I always want the US to win, when someone from another country with an interesting story does well I’m always excited for them. The first Olympics I remember watching were the 1992 Winter Olympics, and I’ve watched every one since. (Though I was out of the country for half of the 1992 Summer Games, so I didn’t see much and don’t remember much of what I did see) I have memories and favorite moments of each games and not just in my favorite sports, though those are the ones I think of first.

If I had to pick a favorite Olympics overall, it would probably be the 1998 Winter Olympics in Nagano. The two memories that stick out the most were seeing my favorite figure skater of all time Tara Lipinski win gold, and getting up REALLY early to see the Gold Medal Women’s Hockey Game Live! The 1996 Summer games in Atlanta would probably be my favorite Summer Games, (it was nice being in the same time zone so I could see so many events live) and watching the Magnificent Seven Women’s Gymnastics team win Gold. That’s when I got hooked on the sport and was obsessed with those gymnasts for years.

#370: Two Librarians who Helped me

For the past few months there’s been a cd from the library stuck inside my cd player that I haven’t been able to get out. This week I was finally able to get the cd out and return it to the library, but as you might imagine since it was from the library I had a massive fine. Or at least I would have if it weren’t for two librarians.

I used up two full rounds of renewals while it was stuck, hoping I would be able to get it out. After the first round I went to the library explained the situation and a librarian gave me another set of renewals. When those were used up I still hadn’t gotten it out and decided to wait a bit to see if I could get it out, but when I went to the library last weekend to return some books it still wasn’t out. I explained the situation to another librarian, who bordering on rude told me there was nothing she could do and I had to return the cd and pay the fine. When I returned the cd I was surprised when the fine was half the amount I’d expected, and the only thing I can figure is the second librarian reduced my fine without telling me! Wasn’t that nice of her?!

#370: Thank you Lord for the two Librarians who helped me with the cd situation, so I didn’t have to pay a huge fine. They really helped me out.
