#402: Friends with Vacation Homes

I spent this past weekend at the beach, staying at the beach house of a family friend. While there are several things I can think of that I’m thankful for related to the weekend, the main one I want to focus on is having friends with vacation homes. Who doesn’t like to get a way for a few days or a week? But it can get expensive especially if you have to find a hotel room. That’s why its so nice to know people who have vacation homes, it cuts out most of that cost, its more convenient, and you don’t have to be out of there by a certain time the day you leave.

#402: Thank you Lord that I know people who have vacation homes who let me use them to get away when I need a vacation. It can make things so much easier and less stressful.

#401: TV Shows Season Premiers

The newest season of most of the tv shows I watch premier this week or next, and I must say I’m excited to see them! Most of the shows I watch I’ve been a devoted fan for many years and I can’t wait to see what’ll happen next to the characters and where the show is going now. While I enjoy watching reruns of any of my favorite shows, by the end of the summer I’m usually ready for the new season, especially if the last one ended with a cliffhanger.

#401: Thank you Lord for new season premiers of my favorite tv shows, so I can end the suspense of what will happen next and have new episodes to enjoy.

#400: Keeping CDs

Towards the end of June my nine-year old iPod broke and I just recently got around to getting a new one. I had really hoped Apple could fix it or at least transfer the songs to my new one, but since it was so old they couldn’t. Because I’ve never bought anything on iTunes, and all my music has come from downloading from cds I have a lot of work a head of me to load all my cds onto my new iPod. Fortunately, I’ve kept pretty much all of the cds that I had on my iPod so I still have all my music.

#400: Thank you Lord that I kept most of my cds so I don’t have to buy music all over again for my new iPod.

#399: Books that’ve impacted my life

A friend on Facebook nominated me to list 10 books that’ve had an impact on my life. Now most people know I read a lot so I knew I had no excuse not to do it, but it was harder than I expected to come up with 10. The first 5 were easy no brainers for me but the rest were a bit harder. But it got me thinking about the books I’ve read over the years and made me appreciate them so much. Below I’ve listed the books (in no particular order) and a brief explanation of how they’ve impacted my life.

The Screwtape Letters by CS Lewis completely changed my perspective on spiritual warfare, which I’d never completely understood before I read this book.

The Prodigal God by Timothy Keller gave me a completely new perspective on the parable of The Prodigal Son and the nature of God.

Disability and the Gospel by Micheal S Bates changed my perspective on people with disabilities (even my own) and my interactions with them.

The Chronicles of Narnia by CS Lewis (Where do I even begin?) fell in love with reading and fantasy books because of this series, deepened my faith, served as partial inspiration for the novel I’m currently writing.

Unlocked by Karen Kingsbury similar to Disability and the Gospel, inspirational story and gave me a new perspective on autism.

Redeeming Love by Francine Rivers changed my perspective on how much God loves his children, even when they sin.

The Family of Jesus by Karen Kingsbury changed my perspective on various members of Jesus’ family, especially John the Baptist and Jesus’ brother James.

Jesus Calling by Sarah Young an awesome devotional that’s brought me closer to Jesus.

Kisses from Katie by Katie Davis shown me how one person can have a huge impact on the world, and encouraged me to do the same.

Safely Home by Randy Alcorn opened my eyes to the persecuted church around the world, and made me want to pray for them all the more.

#399: Thank you Lord for these books and others that’ve had an impact on my life. Thanks for leading me to them, and the way they’ve changed my life.

#398: Holiday Pay

Since today is Labor Day and like many companies in the US the company I work for is officially closed. However, since we are currently a bit behind on our work and it always gets even more backed up when we have a weekday off, we could come in this morning for a half day of work and get paid double time for the time we worked. Since I don’t have any plans today and could use the money I went into work this morning as usual and worked. I was able to get a lot done and it was nice to get some extra money and be able to get off early!

#398: Thank you Lord for Holiday Pay so I could get some work done and get extra money for it!
