#415: Giving to Others

I hope all my readers had a Merry Christmas! As I was reflecting on Christmas this year, I realized that I felt a bit differently about this year than other years. For the first time I was more excited about each of the gifts I was giving to people than the ones I received. While I was excited about the gifts I would be getting, on Christmas I was more excited to see people’s reactions when they opened the gifts I gave them. I guess this year the phrase “it’s more blessed to give than receive” was true for me. It’s wonderful to be a reminder to others that God gave them his most precious gift his Son on Christmas.

#415: Thank you Lord that we can give to others, to make their lives better or just their Christmas.

#414: Technical Problems at the Movie Theater

On Sunday I went to see The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies in the theater. We got there early so we could get good seats, sat there through the whole pre show, and as soon as the previews started the screen completely cut out. We knew from a similar experience when we saw Les Miserables that you need to tell them right away so they can fix it, so we went out to let them know. However, after sitting there for about 15 minutes they came and told us they weren’t able to fix it.

Instead, we could go to another theater and watch the 3D showing starting in 45 minutes, and they gave us free movie passes as well! (With Les Miz they just gave us passes) While it was frustrating to have to wait that long to see the movie, it was awesome to be able to see it in 3D for the normal price and be able to go back for another movie. I really enjoyed the movie, and while I would never pay full price to see it in 3D I’m glad I was able to watch it. I’m not sure which movie I’m going to see with the passes yet, but I’m looking forward to that too!

#414: Thank you Lord that even though there were so many problems at the movie theater we were able to see The Hobbit, and for the bonus 3D version and free movie tickets.

#413: Humor in Bad Situations

On Monday at work I accidentally flushed my work ID badge down the toilet. It happened so fast I’m not even exactly sure how it happened, but I knew there was nothing I could do to stop it or get it out. I had to go tell my boss what’d happened so I could get it a new one, and when I did I was surprised when he and the people sitting around his desk who happened to hear as well burst out laughing.

I was a bit embarrassed about what’d happened that at first I couldn’t figure out why they were laughing. But the more I thought about it I realized it was funny and I laughed too. It made me feel better about what’d happened and not as embarrassed. It’s amazing what a little appropriate humor can do in bad situations to ease the tension or make someone feel better, and I’m glad it happened in my case or I’d probably still be feeling bad about what happened.

#413: Thank you Lord for humor in bad situations, so we can feel better and not worry as much about what happened.

#412: Extra Help in the Bookstore

Once a month I serve in my church’s bookstore. It’s something I really enjoy doing and this is the seventh year I’ve done it. This year we’re having a sale on everything in the bookstore this week and next week, and today was my week to serve. I knew it was going to be busy, but it ended up being even busier than I thought. I probably would’ve been completely overwhelmed by the end if Stephen one of the teens from the church hadn’t come in to help. While we only have on register I was able to let him take care of the people paying with a credit card, which allowed me to process the customers much quicker.

#412: Thank you Lord that Stephen came in to help with the bookstore today. It made my job so much easier, and helped the customers so much!

#411: Good Cell Reception

I did some Christmas shopping today and had a question about one item, so I called someone who could answer it for me. Unfortunately the store where I was had TERRIBLE cell reception and I couldn’t move an inch or the call was dropped or the person couldn’t hear me. It was so frustrating! I can’t remember the last time I had that much trouble with a call on my cell, let alone a dropped call. Fortunately I was eventually able to get the info I needed, but it really made me appreciate the many many times I haven’t had this problem and was able to make a phone call.

#411: Thank you Lord for good cell phone reception, it’s something that I take for granted but makes things so much easier.
