#418: People Remembering their Cell Phones

Over the weekend something I was going to was cancelled at the last-minute. I needed to get in touch with someone else so they’d know not to go, after calling them three times and texting once I wasn’t able to get in touch with them. I knew they had to go somewhere else beforehand, and as I found out later, they accidentally left their cell phone at home. Unfortunately as a result they drove all the way to the other side of town only to discover it’d been cancelled. I know I did everything I could to get in touch with them, but I still feel bad that they drove all the way over there when they didn’t need to. I have a feeling they won’t forget their cell phone again for a while!

#418: Thank you Lord for when people remember their cell phones when they go out. It makes getting in touch with them so much easier!

#411: Good Cell Reception

I did some Christmas shopping today and had a question about one item, so I called someone who could answer it for me. Unfortunately the store where I was had TERRIBLE cell reception and I couldn’t move an inch or the call was dropped or the person couldn’t hear me. It was so frustrating! I can’t remember the last time I had that much trouble with a call on my cell, let alone a dropped call. Fortunately I was eventually able to get the info I needed, but it really made me appreciate the many many times I haven’t had this problem and was able to make a phone call.

#411: Thank you Lord for good cell phone reception, it’s something that I take for granted but makes things so much easier.

Day 295: Words

I’ve heard the song “Words” by Hawk Nelson quite a bit recently, and it’s made me think about how important words are. Whether it’s in writing or speaking, words are how we communicate with people, and make ourselves known. We’ve all heard the expression “a picture is worth a thousand words” and while that’s often true, pictures can be open for interpretation, and therefore can be misunderstood.

But we also need to be careful with our words, they can help or hurt someone. I know that’s true for me, there’ve been times when I’ve felt discouraged or even worse because of the words someone’s said to me, and other times I’ve been truly encouraged by what their words. I want to be careful in what I say and write, I want to always glorify God and be encouraging to others.

Day 295: Thank you Lord for words, so we can effectively communicate with others, and glorify you.

“Words” by Hawk Nelson
They’ve made me feel like a prisoner
They’ve made me feel set free
They’ve made me feel like a criminal
Made me feel like a king

They’ve lifted my heart
To places I’d never been
And they’ve dragged me down
Back to where I began

Words can build you up
Words can break you down
Start a fire in your heart or
Put it out

Let my words be life
Let my words be truth
I don’t wanna say a word
Unless it points the world back to You

You can heal the heartache
Speak over the fear
(Speak over the fear)
God, Your voice is the only thing
We need to hear
(We need to hear)

Let the words I say
(Let the words I say)
Be the sound of Your grace
(Sound like Your grace)
I don’t wanna say a word
Unless it points the world back to You

I wanna speak Your love
Not just another noise
Oh, I wanna be Your light
I wanna be Your voice

Let the words I say
(Let the words I say)
Be the sound of Your grace
(Sound like Your grace)
I don’t wanna say a word
Unless it points the world back to You
(Back to You)

Day 261: Public Speaking

I’ve never been afraid of public speaking for as long as I can remember. I actually enjoy it and most of the time feel more comfortable speaking in front of large groups than in a small group setting. I enjoy giving presentations and sharing information especially if I think it will help the people listening. Now I would be lying if I said I NEVER get nervous speaking in front of people, I do sometimes, but it’s usually when I’m going to share something personal especially if it’s something I’ve only shared with a few people before. But even then I get over my feelings and say what I need to share.

Day 261: Thank you Lord that I don’t often get nervous speaking in front of people, it’s so wonderful to be able to speak to people.

Day 260: Apologizing

At work yesterday I was VERY rude to one of my co-workers and I’m sorry to admit I didn’t think too much about it at the time. Once I got home though I started feeling ashamed and sorry about what I’d done and knew I had to apologize to them. As soon as I got to work this morning I went right over to the person and apologized for how I behaved, they were very understanding and forgave me, and I believe we’ve put the whole situation behind us.

Apologizing isn’t always easy for me, and I’m sure for most people, but it’s something I know I need to do when I’ve been in the wrong. When I do need to apologize I try to make it as heartfelt as possible especially when it was something major, and hope they understand what I’m saying and accept it. No matter how the person receives my apology I always feel better when I’m done because I know I’ve done the right thing.

Day 260: Thank you Lord that we can apologize to someone when we’ve done wrong, so we can try to mend our relationship with them.

Day 247: Texting

Last night I voted via texting for the winner of So You Think You Can Dance and today I texted a couple people. I don’t text every day but when I do I usually send a bunch of texts, it’s not that I don’t like texting, I just don’t always have a reason to text. I like texting because I like being able to tell someone something, they can read it and know what it is now or later, and you’re not intruding if they’re busy. You can also talk without getting into a long drawn out conversation.

I should mention I don’t appreciate it when people text in class or during a sermon at church. There’s a time and place for texting and that’s not it! In my opinion it’s one of the most disrespectful things you can do to teacher or pastor because you’re ignoring them and they don’t even know about it. I don’t think I’ve ever texted during a church service, and while I did text a couple times during a class it was only because the teacher asked me to contact a fellow student to see if they were coming to class and bringing something we needed.

Day 247: Thank you Lord for texting, it’s such a wonderful way to communicate quickly and without being intrusive.

Day 202: Talking to Friends on the Phone

Today I was able to talk to two of my good friends who live far away on the phone. I love being talking to people on the phone, especially when I don’t see them very much. It’s so nice to hear their voice and have a conversation with them like we’re in the same room. I like texting and Facebook chatting but it takes time to type, and conversations don’t always flow naturally, like they do on the phone.

Day 202: Thank you Lord for times when I talk to friends on the phone, it’s so wonderful to be able to have a conversation with someone especially if they’re far away, and be able to hear their voice.
