#390: Voting in Elections

Tomorrow is the Primary Election in my state for Governor and several other offices, and as usual I’ll be heading to the polls. I haven’t missed voting in an election, regular or primary, since I turned 18; even the one when I was out of the country, I voted by absentee. I’m so grateful that we have a say in who runs our country, state, etc. Even if we don’t like the people in office at least we can had a role in putting them there. I really don’t think you have a right complain about or praise our government unless you voted. (unless of course you aren’t old enough to vote yet) Everyone should care about what goes on in our government because whether we like it or not, or realize it what they do affects us. So I’d like to encourage you to vote tomorrow or whenever your Primary election is as well as in November for the General election.

#390: Thank you Lord that we can vote in elections and decide who makes the decisions in government that affect not only us but everyone around us.

Please note, I’ll be out of the country next week and won’t be able to access my blog. But I should be back the following week with a whole bunch of things I’m grateful for!

Day 326: Change

There have been and will be quite a few big changes at my church this year, and while I don’t always like change I think all of these are ultimately for the best. Of course there are times when we don’t need or want change, but if things stay the same for long periods of time it can get boring. We can try something new, and if it doesn’t work out we can go back to the way things were or try something else.

While we as humans change it’s important to remember there is one person who never changes: God! As Hebrews 13:8 says “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.” While things around us are always moving and changing it’s good to know there’s always one constant person, who we can hold onto.

Day 326: Thank you Lord for change, it often makes things better, and adds variety to our world. But, Thank you for never changing!

Day 305: Retreats

I’m getting ready to leave on a retreat for the weekend and I can’t tell you how excited I am to get away! I’ve been so busy lately that I really need some time away to relax, unwind, and spend time with the Lord. I love going on retreats, they always seem to come at the right time when I really need to get away for a little while. I always have a great time no matter what the plans are, and I always grow closer to the Lord through the time away and closer to the people I’m with. I can’t wait to see what the Lord is going to do this weekend!

Day 305: Thank you Lord for retreats where I can get away and relax and grow closer to you!

Day 292: Run for Their Lives

This morning I participated in “Run for Their Lives”, a 5K cross-country race, to raise money and awareness for women and children caught up in the sex trafficking industry. It’s such a worthy cause and wonderful event that I’m so glad I was able to participate in.

If you had told me a few years ago that I would be doing a 5K I’d never believed you! I have tight muscles in my legs because of my disability and I’ve never had much stamina as a runner. I did walk a good bit of it this morning, with some running mixed in, which was my plan. I’ve been training for it on the treadmill for the past month, first working on distance then increasing my speed, I’d lost weight and gained some muscle, but I wasn’t running yet so I wasn’t sure what to expect.

My goal was to do it in less than an hour, and when I hit the 2 mile mark in just under 30 minutes I knew I was in great shape. My final time was 47 minutes, nothing close to the winner who did it in 18, but it was a victory for me! I’ve already decided I’m going to start training for next year. I want to be able to run most of it next year to support such a great cause, and to show others that even if you have a disability you can still do great things! I hope I was able to be an inspiration today to everyone who knows me and about my disability!

Day 292: Thank you Lord for Run for Their Lives, so we could have a chance to help women and children around the world escape the horrors of sex slavery. Thank you that I was able to be part of it today, and I pray that I was able to inspire someone to try something difficult for them with my example.

Day 271: Fundraisers

This morning I went to a pancake breakfast fundraiser and had a good time. I like going to fundraisers, but I can’t always afford to go to as many as I’d like. But if it’s an organization or cause I really want to support than I try to attend and give what I can. It feels good to contribute and I know I’m helping them out. If I can I sometimes like to volunteer at fundraisers too, because they often need lots of help, and I can free other people who are more involved up to do other things.

Day 271: Thank you Lord for fundraisers they’re such a wonderful way for people to get involved with organizations, and causes, and be able to help them out.

Day 258: Weddings

This afternoon I attended a beautiful outdoor wedding. For as long as I can remember I’ve loved weddings, maybe because I was in my first at age 6, and I loved dressing up as a bride when I was little. Probably like most people I’ve been to quite a few weddings over the years, it’s so wonderful to see people beginning a life together and celebrate their special day with them. Weddings are also such a wonderful picture of Christ and the church as we are reminded that when Christ returns we will share in the wedding supper of the lamb.

Day 258: Thank you Lord for weddings not only so we can celebrate with the couple as they begin their life together, but be reminded of what will happen when you return!
