#366: Work Fantasy Football League

First of all, Happy New Year! I hope you had a good new years and are enjoying 2014 so far. Even though I’ve finished my 365 Days of Thanks, I’m not going to stop writing about the things I’m grateful for. I won’t be posting every day, but I’m hoping for once a week, maybe more often as things come up, we’ll have to wait and see.

If you were following my blog last year you may remember I’m really into Fantasy Football. This football season I was in three leagues: one public, one with friends, and a work league. I did pretty well in the public league finishing second, and fifth in the friends league. The work league is a Pick’Em League where you pick the winner of each of the games each week, if you pick the most correct teams one week you win a jersey at my job, which I did last year towards the end of the season.

This year I wasn’t able to win a single week, but I did well enough that a few weeks into the season I was in second place overall. By the mid-point of the season I was in first place overall, which is where I finished the season. While I was frustrated that I didn’t win an individual week, I was SO excited that I won the whole thing! I won a Wal-Mart gift card, which I can definitely use more than a jersey.

#366: Thank you Lord for the work Fantasy Football league, I had so much fun doing it this year, and am glad I won something I can use.

Day 282: Walter Football

I did a post a little while ago about how I do Fantasy Football. Well it’s week 6 this weekend and I’m doing REALLY well! I’m in 1st place in one of my regular leagues, (6th in the other) and 3rd overall in the Pick ‘Em league! I’ll be the first to admit I’m not the best at Fantasy Football, (the past 2 years are proof of that) but I try my best and each year I learn something new.

I can’t keep track of the all the players, (who to play, who to bench, who to drop, who to pick up) and while it’s a bit easier to keep track of all the teams records, I like to get advice on who to pick each week. So each week when I’m setting up my team and picks for the week, I go on WalterFootball.com, and see what they say on all those points. It’s always a big help, and I’m so glad it’s there to help me!

Day 282: Thank you Lord for Walter Football, it’s such a big help to me with Fantasy Football!

Day 236: Fantasy Football

I had the draft for one of my Fantasy Football leagues today and I can’t tell you how excited I am for Football Season! I love watching football and playing Fantasy Football makes the game so much more exciting for me. I pay so much more attention to the games and the players and when I talk with people about football I actually know something about teams other than the Ravens.

I’ve done Fantasy Football for the past few years and the first couple years I actually did pretty well, coming in second place the first two years. But as time has gone on I haven’t done as well, mainly because each year I’ve had problems with a certain position. I learn something new every year though and I apply it the next year. I don’t want to stop, I have too much fun each year!

Last year I did three leagues two regular and one Pick-Em run by the company I work for where I came in first one week and won a jersey! I really enjoyed the Pick-Em league it made things really interesting and provided something fun to talk about at work. I haven’t heard yet whether or not they’re doing it again this year but I definitely want to do it again!

Day 236: Thank you Lord for Fantasy Football! It’s so much fun for me to play, and helps me understand and pay more attention to football so I can discuss it with people, as well as helping me enjoy it more.

Day 35: Super Bowl XLVII

As a Raven’s fan I tried to think of one or two things from last night’s game that I could write about. But there were too many and some seemed too short to write an entire entry about so I decided to write a general post.

First of all I’m thankful we won! That was an awesome game, and I’m thankful that the 49ers put forth such a valiant effort to try to win, it made the game so much more exciting to watch! I’m also thankful we won because it gave me another chance to wear my new Jacoby Jones jersey today!

Speaking of Jacoby Jones, I’m grateful he’s one our team! Those two touchdowns were incredible! Some other Ravens’ I’m grateful for because of how they played, are: My other Raven’s jersey Anquan Boldin, Joe Flacco, Ray Rice, Justin Tucker, Ed Reed, and of course Ray Lewis! Since I already wrote an entire post about Ray Ray I’m not going to say much, but thank you Ray for the past 17 years, you will be missed! Thank you for giving God the glory for the win!

I’m thankful for Jack and Jackie Harbaugh! You raised two amazing sons, and it was fun to see them face off against each on the biggest stage of football! (Btw, if you haven’t seen the Facebook pic of Jim and John telling “Mom” on each other try to find it, it’s awesome!)

Day 35: Thank you Lord for Super Bowl 47! That was such an exciting and amazing game!

On a side note Some things I’m NOT grateful for: The power outage, though it did make things interesting. Beyonce’s half time performance, while I did think it was good singing wise, it kinda creeped me out, there were several points especially towards the end where I thought she looked possessed.

Day 13: NFL Kickers

After yesterday’s Ravens’ Game I thought I’d write today’s post about Justin Tucker, but before I could I saw the end of the Atlanta/Seattle Game and decided to expand it to all NFL Kickers. I have always been a fan of Kickers, my all-time favorite Ravens’ player is Matt Stover our former kicker. (Now retired) I have seen so many games that come down to the kicker missing or making a field goal. They make the game interesting.

Of course touchdowns are important and exciting, but when you have an equally matched offense and defense more often than not the kicker is the one who makes the difference. I have heard that the kicker is often the brunt of the teams’ jokes but when they make that game winning field goal everyone is happy. I think it is about time we show our appreciation for them.

To all NFL Kickers: Thank you for making football games the nail bitters they can be. Your teams would not be the same without you.

Day 13: Thank you Lord for NFL Kickers, and the excitement they add to a football game.

Day 6: Ray Lewis

I don’t think you can be a Baltimore Ravens fan and not be thankful for Ray Lewis. With the announcement earlier this week of his retirement at the end of the season you know the rest of the season is going to be special. It is impossible for me to think of the Ravens without him since he has been around as long as the team.

RayRay is arguably the best defensive player in history based on his stats alone, but add to that his longevity (17 seasons) and I think that makes him the best. His leadership has had a huge impact on the team’s performance, and I know it will be difficult to find someone to fill that role.

At the end of today’s game when he took off his jersey to reveal the shirt bearing the words “Psalms 91” all I could think was what a witness and a statement about him and our God! Verse 2: “I will say to the LORD, ‘My refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.'” Along with verses 9-11: “Because you have made the LORD your dwelling place– the Most High, who is my refuge no evil shall be allowed to befall you, no plague come near your tent. For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways.”

While I am sad he is retiring, I cannot wait to see Ray Lewis play the final games of his career in the coming weeks and see the legacy he leaves behind in Baltimore. Thank you Ray for all you have done for Baltimore and the Ravens; You have truly left your mark on both, and we are grateful for you!

Day 6: Thank you Lord for Ray Lewis, and his influence! May people be touched by his witness today and every day.
