#428: Being on the Prayer Team

I’m one of those Christians who’s never been very comfortable with praying out loud. But I know full well how important prayer is in the life of a Christian and the world in general. However, in the past few years my prayer life has really suffered. I still prayed regularly, but it felt like more of a duty, I would go through my list of things I needed to pray for as quickly as possible, so I could move on to the next thing. I would groan inwardly every time there was a group prayer because I knew it would take a long time and I usually wanted to get it over with as quickly as possible. That’s changed though over the past few months.

Last summer I was asked to be on the prayer team for a class being offered this winter/spring at my church. I was a bit surprised and not sure if I wanted to do it, but I prayed about it and agreed. I can’t tell you how grateful I am that I said yes! My prayer life has completely changed as a result, I want to pray now more than ever, and I don’t feel like it’s something I have to do. I’ve been able to see and hear about the results of my prayers for the class. I don’t dread group prayer times, but see them as amazing opportunities. In March I missed something I Really wanted to see because of a group prayer time, knowing I would probably miss it if I stayed I didn’t care because I knew how important it was and I later heard about the results of that prayer time. (Now if I can just get comfortable with praying out loud)

#428: Thank you Lord for putting me on the prayer team and all that it’s done in my prayer life! You knew I what I needed to change and gave me the opportunity to. Thank you also for all that my prayers have done in the lives of the students in the class.

Day 350: Prayer Requests on Facebook

For the past few days I’ve been following updates on Facebook about someone I know who recently had surgery and their recovery isn’t going well at all. While it’s a difficult situation it’s great to be able to get lots of updates so I know how to pray for them and what’s going on at the moment. I really appreciate it when people post prayer requests on Facebook, it’s nice to know what’s going on in someone’s life and to be able to pray for them. I occasionally post them myself if something’s going on in my life that I need prayer for, there’ve been a couple of times when I’ve been in a situation and literally felt people’s prayers and I know they’re praying for me because of what I posted, and I’m so grateful for them.

Day 350: Thank you Lord for prayer requests on Facebook, it’s so wonderful to be able to pray for people and have people pray for you too!

Day 122: Prayer

In case you didn’t know, today is the National Day of Prayer, so it seemed natural to me to write about prayer today. I’ve already written about answered prayer but prayer is so much more than asking God for something and waiting for an answer be it yes, no or wait.

Prayer is talking to God, he already knows everything about us but he wants us to talk to him and tell him what’s going on in our life. If you really think about it prayer is pretty amazing. Anytime day or night, we can talk one on one with the Creator of the Universe, and tell him anything!

Day 122: Thank you Lord that we can come before you in prayer, and that you listen to us.

Day 58: Answered Prayer

I came home from work yesterday to find out that God had answered a prayer I had been praying for a while in a big way. Now I believe that God always answers prayers, it’s just the answer isn’t always yes, sometimes it’s no or wait. Well he had been saying “wait” for a while now, and now I can rejoice that at the right time he said yes!

I know God knows what’s best for us, and sometimes what we want isn’t what’s best for us. I had been trusting God for the outcome, and waiting to see what he would do. I cannot tell you how many times he’s said “no” about something, and I have been saddened by it. When I look back on many of those times I’m glad he didn’t say yes, because I see that what happened was so much better than if he had granted my request.

Day 58: Thank you Lord that you answer our prayers in the way that’s ultimately best for us. We may not like it at the time, but you have our good in mind.
