#437: Making it Home Safely Saturday Night

I had an awesome day Saturday with some friends about an hour and a half away from where I live. It was a great day, however the drive home was anything but. A huge thunderstorm rolled in with high winds, torrential rain, and lots and lots of lightening. It got so bad that at times you couldn’t see five feet in front of the car; fortunately every time that happened there were no other cars anywhere close to us. To make matters worse, our drive should’ve been almost all highway, but our GPS went on the fritz and took us on a round-a-bout trip through the countryside before we got to the highway. I’d be hard pressed to think of many worse conditions to drive home in, but we made it home safely, and I’m so grateful to God for getting us through that safely.

#437: Thank you Lord for getting us home safely Saturday night, we couldn’t have done it without your help.

#434: The Airline Finding my Bag

If you’re wondering why I haven’t posted anything in almost a month I have a very good reason: I’ve been out of the country on my big trip. The trip was incredible and I’m sure I’ll be posting more about it soon, but first I have something more pressing. After our long flight back we had a short one on a turbo prop plane home. Unfortunately there wasn’t a lot of cargo space on it, and everyone in my group had big bags; also one of the other passengers had a heavy electric wheelchair, and as a result when we arrived at our destination we discovered most of our bags had not made it. It was almost 11pm, but we had to fill out a ton of paperwork so we could hopefully get our bags back. I was glad I didn’t have anything irreplaceable in my checked bags, but I wasn’t looking forward to having to replace what I did have. Yesterday I got a call from the airline saying they’d found my bag and I was so relieved, it arrived today and I’m so grateful the airline was able to find it.

#434: Thank you Lord that the airline found my bag, I was not looking forward to replacing everything in it.

#424: Changing my Trip

In May I’m going out of the country on a really amazing trip that I’m super excited about. When I first heard about the trip I learned there were two options: one week in one city or two weeks in a different city in the same country. I really wanted to visit the city for the one week trip, but the two-week trip sounded more interesting, so I decided to go on the two-week trip. Over the weekend I got a call from one of the trip organizers who asked me if I would be interested in spending one week in the city I was planning on going to and the second week in the city I had wanted to visit. Of course I said yes! After hanging up the phone I started crying tears of joy, I couldn’t believe how God had worked things out, and I’m even more excited for the trip now!

#424: Thank you Lord for the change in my trip in May. I still can’t believe how you worked things out and I can’t wait!

#402: Friends with Vacation Homes

I spent this past weekend at the beach, staying at the beach house of a family friend. While there are several things I can think of that I’m thankful for related to the weekend, the main one I want to focus on is having friends with vacation homes. Who doesn’t like to get a way for a few days or a week? But it can get expensive especially if you have to find a hotel room. That’s why its so nice to know people who have vacation homes, it cuts out most of that cost, its more convenient, and you don’t have to be out of there by a certain time the day you leave.

#402: Thank you Lord that I know people who have vacation homes who let me use them to get away when I need a vacation. It can make things so much easier and less stressful.

#391: My Trip this Summer

For my regular readers I’m sorry I haven’t posted in a while, but I’ve had a very good excuse: I’ve been out of the country! I’m back now, and let me tell you it was an amazing trip! I traveled with a group of friends to an orphanage for children with special needs. We spent time with the kids, and ran a VBS.

I had so much fun with these kids! There was one boy who can’t walk at all but is just small enough that I could carry him around. Every time he saw me he would say “Up” and I would pick him up and carry him around. He has limited use of his hands too, but has found ways to use what they can do to do what he needs. He’s inspired me even more to try not to let my own disability stand in my way and try as much as I can.

I had some really great conversations with one of the older boys. He’s too old to be adopted, but he really cares about the people around him and tries to make them feel special. Most of our conversations were hilarious, but underneath all of them I could see his heart, and tell he’s really being used there in wonderful ways.

I don’t know how much of an impact the VBS had on the kids, (I hope it had a big impact, but I don’t know) but it certainly had an impact on me. I got to play one of the women at the cross and the empty tomb, and let me tell you its impacted the way I see those events. During the skits I felt like I was there and felt real emotions. I know I will never see those events the same way again.

#391: Thank you Father for what happened on my trip. May it have a lasting impact on my life, the lives of the team, and the kids we went to see.

Day 222: Amusement Parks

I wasn’t able to post yesterday because I was at Hershey Park all day and didn’t get home until after midnight. I love going to Amusement Parks! Some of my earliest memories are going to Dutch Wonderland, a kids’ amusement park in Lancaster, Pa. I loved going there and had so much fun riding all the rides. It’s always fun to go to Amusement Parks and spend time with family and/or friends having a great time together!

Through the years I’ve also been to Disney World, and Busch Gardens (Williamsburg). While I’ve enjoyed each of the parks I’ve visited if I had to pick a favorite it would probably be Busch Gardens, there’s so much variety there from shows to rides, I love them all!

No matter where I go there are so many different rides I love riding. I have to do the swinging chairs, and a few others depending on the park, but my favorites are the roller coasters! I am kinda picky though, while I’ll do the steel I prefer wooden, I don’t like going upside down (but I’ll do it if I have to and there’s not too many), and I don’t like big drops. (I can handle those as long as I close my eyes)

Hershey Park has my favorite coaster of all time: Lightning Racer, we rode it 9 times yesterday! I love how it has 2 coasters that race each other it makes it so much more fun seeing which one is going to win! We really got into it yesterday and kept track of how many times we won. (7) My second favorite coaster is Apollo’s Chariot at Busch Gardens, I do have to close my eyes on the first drop, but the rest of the ride makes up for it.

Day 222: Thank you Lord for Amusement Parks, I always have so much fun when I go riding the rides and spending time with people.
