442: Stephen and Alex Kendrick

Friday night I went to the movie theater and saw the last movie by Stephen and Alex Kendrick: War Room. Let me just say right now I HIGHLY recommend to anyone reading this post right now that you go out and see it! The movie is so powerful and inspiring, and it’s all about the power of prayer, something that God has been teaching me a lot about this year. It will encourage your prayer life so much. I’ve seen all but the first of the Kendrick brother’s films and this one is probably my favorite. (though Courageous is a close second) I’ve enjoyed each one and I love the way they combine humor with seriousness for a powerful and memorable story. Each one has been an encouragement to me and other Christians I know. I pray that they will continue to produce more and more films like this one.

#442: Thank you Lord for Stephen and Alex Kendrick and their movies. Continue to bless them and their movies, that they would have an impact on the world.

#410: Giving Thanks

Once again it’s Thanksgiving week in the US. Hard to believe but it is. Whether or not we like to admit it, we have a lot to be grateful for, even when it doesn’t seem like it. One thing I’ve learned from writing this blog is when we look for the things we’re grateful for we appreciate them so much more. So I’d like to encourage you once again to pay attention for things you are thankful for and thank God for them, not just on Thursday but all the time.

#409: Thank you Lord that we can give thanks for the things in our lives and appreciate them even more when we do.

#371: The Olympics

Every other year for two weeks I’m glued to the tv like most of the world, watching the Olympics! I’m a HUGE Olympic fan! I don’t care what sport is on, Summer or Winter Games, if I’m not doing anything and the Olympic broadcast is on I’m watching it! Of course there are some sports I like more than others, but I enjoy watching them all. I was born in an Olympic year, and I think I might’ve become an Olympic fan before I was born because my mom remembers watching the Games while she was pregnant with me.

There’s so many different sports in the Olympics, which we don’t often get to see. Figure Skating is my favorite Winter sport and Gymnastics my favorite Summer. I watch these as often as I can on TV, but I often don’t get to see the other Olympic sports. I often remember athletes from previous games and it’s fun to see them compete again and hear what they’ve been up to.

I love cheering on the US athletes, and seeing the best athletes from around the world compete against each other. I love hearing their stories, especially people from other countries, and while I always want the US to win, when someone from another country with an interesting story does well I’m always excited for them. The first Olympics I remember watching were the 1992 Winter Olympics, and I’ve watched every one since. (Though I was out of the country for half of the 1992 Summer Games, so I didn’t see much and don’t remember much of what I did see) I have memories and favorite moments of each games and not just in my favorite sports, though those are the ones I think of first.

If I had to pick a favorite Olympics overall, it would probably be the 1998 Winter Olympics in Nagano. The two memories that stick out the most were seeing my favorite figure skater of all time Tara Lipinski win gold, and getting up REALLY early to see the Gold Medal Women’s Hockey Game Live! The 1996 Summer games in Atlanta would probably be my favorite Summer Games, (it was nice being in the same time zone so I could see so many events live) and watching the Magnificent Seven Women’s Gymnastics team win Gold. That’s when I got hooked on the sport and was obsessed with those gymnasts for years.

#370: Two Librarians who Helped me

For the past few months there’s been a cd from the library stuck inside my cd player that I haven’t been able to get out. This week I was finally able to get the cd out and return it to the library, but as you might imagine since it was from the library I had a massive fine. Or at least I would have if it weren’t for two librarians.

I used up two full rounds of renewals while it was stuck, hoping I would be able to get it out. After the first round I went to the library explained the situation and a librarian gave me another set of renewals. When those were used up I still hadn’t gotten it out and decided to wait a bit to see if I could get it out, but when I went to the library last weekend to return some books it still wasn’t out. I explained the situation to another librarian, who bordering on rude told me there was nothing she could do and I had to return the cd and pay the fine. When I returned the cd I was surprised when the fine was half the amount I’d expected, and the only thing I can figure is the second librarian reduced my fine without telling me! Wasn’t that nice of her?!

#370: Thank you Lord for the two Librarians who helped me with the cd situation, so I didn’t have to pay a huge fine. They really helped me out.

Day 265: Autumn

Happy first day of Autumn! (Or Fall, whichever you prefer. Personally I like Autumn) I can’t believe Summer is over already and the weather is starting to get cooler. My Birthday happens during Autumn, and I’m looking forward to it! It’s fun to see the leaves on the trees change from green to orange, red, and yellow. It’s time for pumpkins, and apples, and not just in my two favorite kinds of pies! Things are dying and preparing for winter, and while it can be sad to see them go, we know they’ll be back next year renewed and beautiful!

Day 265: Thank you Lord for Autumn, where we see things transition to winter as they prepare for next year!

Day 185: Living in the USA

Happy 4th of July/Independence day! Today here in US we celebrate our Independence from England over two hundred years ago. Today the Continental Congress voted to adapt the Declaration of Independence. (You probably didn’t know this but the vote to break away from England was two days before, July 2, 1776) I love the fact that I live in the USA, where we have some many freedoms that many people in other countries aren’t able to enjoy. This is the greatest country in the world and I’m proud to be an American!

Day 185: Thank you Lord that I live in the United States where I can enjoy all the freedoms we have here.

Day 182: Reconnecting with People

Over the weekend I talked with two people I haven’t seen in years. One on Facebook Chat, the other when they came to visit my church. I like it when I randomly run into someone I haven’t seen in years, or they contact me. It’s such a wonderful surprise, and I enjoy catching up with them, and talking about old times.

I hadn’t seen or had any contact with the person I saw on Sunday for at least ten years, but a few weeks ago they randomly popped into my head for some reason, so I was excited when I saw them, and really enjoyed talking with them. I’ve seen the person I talked with on Facebook a bit more recently, and we’ve been Facebook friends for a long time, but they rarely post anything, and I’d forgotten we were Facebook friends. It was wonderful to talk with them, a lot has happened since the last time we talked, and it was wonderful to catch up. I enjoyed talking with both these people so much and I hope I can keep in contact with them.

Day 182: Thank you Lord for times when I reconnect with people I haven’t seen in years, it’s so wonderful to catch up with them.
