#435: E-mailing to another country

Now that I’m back from my big trip I really miss the people I met there, fortunately there’s an easy way to keep in touch: e-mail! Since my return I’ve been e-mailing back and forth with several people I met there. It’s great to be able to keep in touch and hear what’s going on in their lives and share about mine. I hope we can keep it up and build better relationships. I still miss being there and being with them, but it’s better than nothing.

#435: Thank you Lord that I can easily e-mail the people I met on my trip. Help me to keep this communication going and develop my relationships with them.

#434: The Airline Finding my Bag

If you’re wondering why I haven’t posted anything in almost a month I have a very good reason: I’ve been out of the country on my big trip. The trip was incredible and I’m sure I’ll be posting more about it soon, but first I have something more pressing. After our long flight back we had a short one on a turbo prop plane home. Unfortunately there wasn’t a lot of cargo space on it, and everyone in my group had big bags; also one of the other passengers had a heavy electric wheelchair, and as a result when we arrived at our destination we discovered most of our bags had not made it. It was almost 11pm, but we had to fill out a ton of paperwork so we could hopefully get our bags back. I was glad I didn’t have anything irreplaceable in my checked bags, but I wasn’t looking forward to having to replace what I did have. Yesterday I got a call from the airline saying they’d found my bag and I was so relieved, it arrived today and I’m so grateful the airline was able to find it.

#434: Thank you Lord that the airline found my bag, I was not looking forward to replacing everything in it.

#433: Everyone who helped with the surprise party

Last year I was asked to plan a surprise birthday party for Ms Cindy, the director of the Homeschool Harmonizers, and of course I said yes! Harmonizers was such a big part of my life and I knew it would be a lot of fun. Well, Sunday was the party and it was a big success! A ton of people came and she had no idea. I wanted to take some time and thank everyone who helped make the party possible:

-Everyone who knew about the party and kept it quiet. So many people have known about the party for so long we weren’t sure if we could keep it a secret, but we did.
-Everyone who came to the party. We knew no matter what it would be a great reunion and it certainly was.
-Ms Sue for making the delicious cake.
-Beth for driving the shuttle, so everyone didn’t have to walk from where they parked.
-Tamra and David, for taking her out for lunch so we could get everything ready.
-Jen, Josh, Quinn, and Michael for playing the music so we could sing.
-Amanda, Angie, Chloe, Lizzie, Caitlyn, Sam, Matt B, Kai, Amber, Abby and Katie for singing the solos and sounding amazing!
-Kai, Rachel, Tom, Josh, Quinn, Michael, Ryan, Matt M, Matt G, Rebecca, Jimmy, Amanda, Angie, Chloe, Lizzie and Caitlyn for being in the skit.
-Ms Maria for asking me to plan it and helping where she could.
-Jen my partner in crime for planning, it was great working with you again, and I miss talking with you in one way or another every day!

I’m sure I’ve forgotten someone, but these are the people I can remember. Thanks again for all your help and talents for making this special party happen!

#433: Thank you Lord for everyone who helped with the surprise party Sunday, it was such a wonderful time and wouldn’t have been possible without them.

#432: Perspectives Class

As I mentioned in my last post I’ve been taking the Perspectives class at my church this winter/spring. (Which is part of the reason I haven’t been posting as frequently this year, I haven’t had time!) If you’ve never heard of Perspectives, it’s a class on missions and the Christian worldview, and it will change your life! In my opinion every Christian should take it if they can, because it will completely change how you see the world around you, you’ll see God everywhere, and want to be part of what he is doing.

Tomorrow is our last class and I don’t want it to end! Not that I’m going to miss the work, but God has taught me so much, and I want to keep learning. Each week I feel like a piece of the puzzle fell into place about what God wants me to do with what I’ve learned. I don’t have the full picture yet, but it’s getting there, and I’m excited to see what he has in store for me!

I could probably write multiple posts about what God has taught me through this class, but I won’t, at least for now. For now, I will give you some of the highlights, I could write a lot more, but these are some of the main ones.

-I’ve always thought of missions as reaching people with the gospel, and while the people group they come from matters for the end of time, (Revelation 5:9) in terms of every day missions it’s not a big deal. I now see that it does matter what group they come from.
-The Importance of Self-Sacrifice: If the whole world is to be reached, we need to make some sacrifices, whether or not we go on the mission field for the Great Commission to be accomplished.
-Application of some of the stuff I learned in school. There were a couple of lessons that used some stuff I had learned in some of my college classes and applied them to missions. I had never thought of it in that way!

#432: Thank you Lord for the Perspectives class and all you have taught me through it. I’m so glad I was able to take it and I can’t wait to see what you’re going to do next with what I’ve learned!

#431: Christy Giving Me a Ride

My church is offering the course “Perspectives” this winter/spring and you have no idea how badly I wanted to take it! But, I couldn’t figure out a way to get there, and I was so upset about not being able to that I was literally in tears a couple times thinking about it. God worked things out though and my friend Christy has been giving me a ride each week, even though I live out of her way.

I’m so grateful that I’ve been able to take the class, (more on that in a later post) but I am also so grateful that Christy has been able to give me a ride. I’ve enjoyed getting to know her better and we always have great discussions on the way to and from class about what we’re learning. I know our talks have opened my eyes to things I haven’t seen before.

#431: Thank you Lord for Christy and that she’s been able to give me a ride each week to class, so I can take it. Thank you for her willingness and friendship, as well as our conversations in the car that have made the class even more meaningful for me.

#430: iTunes

I love listening to music on my iPod. I like putting the whole thing on shuffle and being surprised by what comes next. (I’ve gotten some pretty interesting combinations that way) Ever since I got my iPod I’ve gotten the music on it from CDs I already owned, or bought. I liked being able to have a hard copy of the songs so I didn’t just have to listen to them on my iPod.

For Christmas though I bought my very first album on iTunes as a gift for my mom. She doesn’t have an iPod, but there’s a Christmas album that she’s always loved that for some reason has never been released on CD. I bought it and downloaded it onto a CD for her, and that gave me the courage to start buying songs on iTunes. There are several songs I’ve been wanting to get, but didn’t want to get the whole CD. I’m amazed at how cheep it is and easy to download. I still don’t know if I want to get too many full CDs on iTunes, but for individual songs it’s certainly easier and cheeper to get them on iTunes.

#430: Thank you Lord for iTunes and the ease of downloading songs there.

#429: Vaccinations

I’ve recently had to get a couple of different vaccinations for my upcoming trip, and let me tell you I’ve never liked getting shots! But I know how important they are and I don’t want to get sick. A tetanus booster is one of the ones I had to get, and that’s the one I hate getting the most. But, I’ve heard enough about lockjaw to know I NEVER want to have it! Therefore, I’ll handle the pain and discomfort for now so I don’t have to worry about it later.

#429: Thank you Lord for vaccinations so we don’t have to worry about getting sick.
