#441: Computer not working

If you’re wondering why I haven’t posted in a while, it’s because my laptop has been having issues lately, and I haven’t been able to use it consistently. Of course there are other computers that I could’ve used to post, but I have to share them and I don’t always have a lot of time.

This time has been really good for me, shortly before this all started I was beginning to realize that I was wasting too much time on my computer when I could’ve been using my time much more productively. Now that I haven’t been able to use my computer I have been spending time doing more meaningful things, (though I will admit probably not as much as I should) still, God has used this time to show me things about how I use my time that I wouldn’t have seen otherwise.

#441: Thank you Lord for this time when my computer hasn’t worked and what you’ve taught me about how I use my time as a result.

#438: New Work Computer

At my job not everyone has a computer at their desk, and until last week I was one of those people. It didn’t matter too much because I don’t always need one, and with some of my tasks I prefer as much work space as possible. When I need a computer, most of the time I can borrow someone else’s who doesn’t need it at the moment, but not always and it could be a huge pain to find one that was available and worked. Last week they upgraded all the computers, which was LONG overdue, and I got a computer at my desk! Since I didn’t have one before it took a couple of days for it to be fully operational, but I am SO happy to finally have one! It’ll make my job so much easier especially with the new operating system the installed with the computers.

#438: Thank you Lord for my new computer at work. Not having one has caused so many problems and now most of them will be solved, and make my job so much easier.

#430: iTunes

I love listening to music on my iPod. I like putting the whole thing on shuffle and being surprised by what comes next. (I’ve gotten some pretty interesting combinations that way) Ever since I got my iPod I’ve gotten the music on it from CDs I already owned, or bought. I liked being able to have a hard copy of the songs so I didn’t just have to listen to them on my iPod.

For Christmas though I bought my very first album on iTunes as a gift for my mom. She doesn’t have an iPod, but there’s a Christmas album that she’s always loved that for some reason has never been released on CD. I bought it and downloaded it onto a CD for her, and that gave me the courage to start buying songs on iTunes. There are several songs I’ve been wanting to get, but didn’t want to get the whole CD. I’m amazed at how cheep it is and easy to download. I still don’t know if I want to get too many full CDs on iTunes, but for individual songs it’s certainly easier and cheeper to get them on iTunes.

#430: Thank you Lord for iTunes and the ease of downloading songs there.

Day 298: Remembering my Password

I had a major brain fart at work today and couldn’t remember one of my passwords. As a result I had to have that one reset, which was a major hassle. As bad as it may sound to forget my password, it’s understandable. I have several different passwords for different things at work and I’m forced to change them every month. As you might imagine it can be hard to keep them all straight, and remember which password I’m currently using. So I really glad when I remember all of my passwords, especially on the first try.

Day 298: Thank you Lord for the times when I remember all of my passwords at work, so I don’t have to think and remember which one I’m using or have it reset.

Day 281: Computer CD Drive

I’ve been having problems with my CD Player and it’s been working sporadically. It’s been VERY annoying and frustrating. I got some CDs from the Library today and because it’s not working I can’t listen to them, but then I realized I could play the CDs on my laptop! (I seriously can’t believe I never thought of it before!) I forget sometimes that computers have CD drives because I don’t use them on a regular basis. It’s so nice to be able to play CDs and DVDs on a computer, especially when you don’t have a CD or DVD player handy. I mainly use mine to upload CDs to iTunes, but I have used it to watch DVDs over the years. Of course I’ve also used it to upload software onto the computer, and download files onto a disk to give to people.

Day 281: Thank you Lord for CD drives on computers, so I can listen to CDs, watch DVDs, or put CDs into iTunes.

Day 244: Video Chatting

During church today we Skyped someone from our church who’s currently in another country. It was so cool to be able to hear their voice, see them and hear about what they’ve been doing. Then this evening I Facebook Video Chatted with someone on the other side of the country. We had some technical problems that ended our conversation but it was fun for the brief time it worked.

I haven’t used video chat very often (since I don’t Skype) but I think it’s pretty amazing that you can talk face to face with someone anywhere in the world right on your computer screen! It’s an awesome way to be able to communicate over a long distance, and can be a lot of fun!

Day 244: Thank you Lord for video chatting so we can communicate with people far away and be able to see their face!

Day 157: Flash Drives

Yesterday I was thinking about something I wrote a paper about my Senior year of college, and wondering if I still had it. I couldn’t find the actual paper printed out, but I have most of my college papers saved on a flash drive, which I was able to find. I remembered though that I didn’t have many of my papers from that particular class saved on that drive, but I was hoping it would be there. I was SO glad when I plugged it and found it!

Flash drives are pretty amazing piece of technology if you ask me. They’re small and portable, but you can store SO much information on them! They’re so easy to use too, you just plug them into your computer and you can see all your files. They haven’t changed too much as technology has changed either, I can use my old flash drives on my new computer, unlike older technology. (Does ANYONE have a computer that takes floppy disks anymore?)

I remember the days when you could only store files on floppy disks, and cds, you couldn’t store nearly as much on them and I was always afraid they were going to break! I remember my first flash drive it was less than a gig, and if I remember correctly cost about $40, which at the time was a good price for something that big. Now you can get drives that are several gigs for less than that! Isn’t it amazing how much things have changed in less than ten years?!

Day 157: Thank you Lord for flash drives. They’re so easy to use, convenient to carry, and hold so much information on them!
