Day 77: Adventures in Odyssey

Like most people I know who were Christian kids in the 1990’s, I LOVED the radio program “Adventures in Odyssey!” If you’re not familiar with Odyssey, it’s a radio program produced by “Focus on the Family” that centers around the small town of Odyssey, and John Avery Whitaker or “Whit” who runs a shop for kids called “Whit’s End.” In each episode various characters experience things in their lives that teach a lesson. Sometimes it’s things that happen in everyday life, other times it’s through various inventions Whit has created, such as the “Imagination Station” which allows people to travel through time using their imaginations.

I can’t tell you how much this program affected my life as a kid. The things I learned through it truly helped shape my faith as a kid, and I know I would not be as strong a Christian as I am today without it.

I still love listening to Odyssey! If I happen to catch on the radio I’ll listen to it, and our library has some of the albums of episodes on cd so I’ll check those out sometimes, plus we still have some albums on cassette or from when we taped them off the radio. When I listen to Odyssey now it takes me back to my childhood, and remember the lessons I learned from it. Also the stories are so well told that it sometimes gives me inspiration as a writer, when I’m writing a children’s story.

Day 77: Thank you Lord for Adventures in Odyssey and the way it shaped my faith as a child.
