#438: New Work Computer

At my job not everyone has a computer at their desk, and until last week I was one of those people. It didn’t matter too much because I don’t always need one, and with some of my tasks I prefer as much work space as possible. When I need a computer, most of the time I can borrow someone else’s who doesn’t need it at the moment, but not always and it could be a huge pain to find one that was available and worked. Last week they upgraded all the computers, which was LONG overdue, and I got a computer at my desk! Since I didn’t have one before it took a couple of days for it to be fully operational, but I am SO happy to finally have one! It’ll make my job so much easier especially with the new operating system the installed with the computers.

#438: Thank you Lord for my new computer at work. Not having one has caused so many problems and now most of them will be solved, and make my job so much easier.

#435: E-mailing to another country

Now that I’m back from my big trip I really miss the people I met there, fortunately there’s an easy way to keep in touch: e-mail! Since my return I’ve been e-mailing back and forth with several people I met there. It’s great to be able to keep in touch and hear what’s going on in their lives and share about mine. I hope we can keep it up and build better relationships. I still miss being there and being with them, but it’s better than nothing.

#435: Thank you Lord that I can easily e-mail the people I met on my trip. Help me to keep this communication going and develop my relationships with them.

Day 208: Google

Almost every day I use one website: Google. Because there are few days when I don’t need to look something up. Certainly if I know the website address I type it in, but that isn’t always the case.

Do you use Google? Everyone I know seems to use it. Forget about Yahoo or Bing. Give it a try if you haven’t already, you won’t be sorry. Have fun and look something strange up on it.

I don’t just use it to look up websites, because there’s so much more to the Google website. Just go on and take a look at the top bar. Keep up with what’s going on in the world with Google News. Look up where something is with Google Maps, and get directions to get there too. Make sure something in another language means what you think it does with Google Translate. Need an e-mail address? Open a Gmail account. Photos on the web are easy to find with Google Images.

Quick I need to know something right now! Relax, Google will have the answer. Sure enough, I just type it in and there it is. Thank you Lord, I don’t know what I’d do without it!

Usually if I didn’t have Google I’d feel lost when it comes to finding stuff online. Varieties of website you’ve never heard of before can be found there. Whatever you need from people to places to things, you can find using Google. Xeroxes to plants. Yarn to computers. Zebras to apples.

Day 208: Thank you Lord for Google and all the info you can find there, and how it helps me almost daily.

Day 116: Easy communication over great distances

Two of my closest friends live on the other side of the country, so I don’t get to see them very much. I really wish someone would invent teleporting technology so I could see them more often. But until then I have to be content with cell phones and Facebook.

I was able to talk with both of them today one by texting and the other on the phone, because she doesn’t have texting :(. I was thinking about how easy it is today with our technology to communicate across the country or even across the world. In seconds we can communicate with someone on the other side of the country or world. One hundred years ago it would take much longer and it wasn’t always reliable. Not too long before that the only way they could communicate only by letters and it would take a long time for it to reach the person you were writing to, and even longer to get a reply back. Isn’t it amazing how far technology has come?

Day 116: Thank you Lord for how easy it is to communicate with people over great distances, so we can keep in touch and know what is going on in the world.

Day 113: My New Laptop

Right before Easter my eight year old laptop died. I immediately began looking for a new one and was able to find one I liked online, which came on Friday. Because I was away this weekend I wasn’t able to set it up until today.

I’m so glad to have my own laptop again, and not have to borrow someone else’s when I need to use a computer. As you might imagine I do a lot of writing, not only for my blog but personal projects which I save on my computer. I can’t save them on someone else’s computer, and it’s nice to have a computer that I can use whenever I want to and not have to wait for someone else to be done with one.

I’m using my new laptop right now and I must say I really like it so far! My old one was slow and heavy, but this one is fast and light weight, and a nice size. I hope this one will last me eight years like my old one, but I doubt it. I can always hope though!

Day 113: Thank you Lord for my new laptop! Thanks for a good new computer to replace my old one.

Day 102: Tools on Cell Phones

During my performance evaluation at work yesterday my supervisor mentioned that I don’t always complete one of my main tasks within a certain time limit. She suggested I use the stopwatch tool on my cell phone to time myself and hopefully keep within the time I’m supposed to complete the task. I agreed and used it today, and was amazed at how helpful it was! This task was the only thing I ended up doing today and I was able to keep consistently close to the time. (Unfortunately my phone was completely dead by the end of the day!)

This got my thinking about how much I use the tools on my cell. I don’t have a smart phone, so I don’t have aps and don’t want them, but tools are extremely handy. I use the calculator the most, I love using math in everyday situations and it comes in handy quite often. When I’m spending the night somewhere else I almost always use the Alarm Clock on my phone to wake me up, I seriously don’t know what I would do without it! I don’t use the other tools on my phone too much, but they certainly come in handy when I need them!

Day 102: Thank you Lord for the tools on my cell phone and how useful they are when I need them!

Day 98: Online Shopping

Two weeks ago my laptop died unexpectedly and wouldn’t restart. It was eight years old, and besides a bad virus two years ago I’ve never had a problem with it. I’d been thinking it was probably time to get a new one and this was a clear sign the time had come. I did some research, and went to the store to look at computers but couldn’t find anything I liked, but I was able to find something I liked online and I ordered it today.

For a long time I was very opposed to buying stuff online. I like to be able to see something before I buy it, make sure it looks the way I want it to, know it fits, don’t want to pay shipping, etc. However, I am beginning to discover there are some things that are better to buy online, you may not be able to find it in the store, it may be cheaper online, and now that I’ve started using PayPal it’s easy to pay for. In general I still prefer to go to a store to buy something, but sometimes it’s better to buy online.

Day 98: Thank you Lord for online shopping, it’s such a convenient way and can be a better way to shop than going to the store.
